A recent survey by Microsoft on mobile phone usage found that 48% of Australians will admit to using their phone while on the toilet, while 66% of Chinese people admit to the same thing!
I don’t know about you but I think that sounds a bit unhygienic. After all I can’t imagine how you can pull your knickers up without putting the phone down first. One handed knicker-pulling just isn’t possible and I can’t think of a single public toilet where I’d dream of putting my phone on the floor.
Even at home I’d be reluctant to use my phone in the loo. Can you use an anti-bacterial wipe on your phone without misting up your screen permanently?
And aren’t there some obvious drawbacks like the echoing acoustics and the possibility of unwanted - ahem - background sounds?
Okay, maybe if you know someone well enough, perhaps they’d make allowances, but I wouldn’t think it was very appropriate for business calls!
Just recently I had an email to this site from a woman who had locked her phone in a public loo stall and couldn’t get it back. Of course I had to explain to her that just because I have a database of public toilets didn’t mean I could visit them all and open a specific one just for her. But the point is, she’d been using her phone in the toilet, so it’s happening here in the UK as well!
